DCC Booster Help Needed!
Author: Trainatic

Hello all,

We are currently trying to add to our dcc layout, which is being run by a Digitrax DCS100 command station. We have a second DCS100 that we are going to use as a booster, but we've run into issues linking the two up. We changed the OPSW #2 to 'c', #3 to 'c', and #5 to 't'. We have also connected a ground wire to link both ground terminals on the front of the DCS100's. The problem is, when the loconet cable is attached from the command station to the booster, we get the track status light on on the booster and it is sending (what appears to be) 30V DC power to the rails while track power is off. When we turn on track power using the throttle, the part of the layout connected to the command station comes on normally, but then the booster track power goes totally dead. Does anyone know how to fix this, or what steps need to be taken to properly link the two DCS100's??

Thanks in advance,
  Caleb

You can not have 2 command stations on the same loconet at the same time.
To make a DCS100/200 into a Booster OPSw2 needs to be set to ‘c’ (closed).  Instructions for changing DSC100/200 Option Switches can be found in the manual.

The Free-mo recommendations for a booster are OpSw 2=throw, 3=close, and 5=close.  3=throw sets the booster to "auto reverse" which is not a good idea, better to use a PSX-AR if you need reversing.
