scratchbuilding model slugs
Author: LandN1971

Any of you "older" modlers has any suggestion
about what type of plastic to use to shape into
a slug body ????
I want to make some slugs like the L&N used.
BUT, want a plastic material that can be sanded
into that shape.............

Thanks

If you're modeling those L&N slugs with the rounded tops that were rebuilt from RS3's, you might want to start with an RS3 shell, sand off the details you don't need, and lower the height.

I would start with that and thn cut the carbody down in height.
Just use some Evergreen sheet plastic to fill in where the cab was.
Oh and post pictures as you build please

Do a 1/87 CAD drawing of the slug and send it in and have it 3D printed. Then sell some and make a profit.

The new scratchbuilding.

In the 90's Model railroader had a series on building those slugs, only painted for the Seaboard Family lines
