More Layout Progress

Ballast has been dropped, and the main structures were temporarily set back in place for scene visualization. Fine grade Woodland Scenics gray blend with a dash of fine buff, brown, and just a pinch of black added for flavor. The areas immediately under the switches still need to have ballast added. Plenty of crud, dust, and spillage from the cement factory will be tossed around soon. The foam hills have been painted a nice light tan 'dirt' brown. Various green to yellow shades of fine ground foam sprinkled on top. I think I'll add a little yellow highlighting paint to some of those painted backdrop hills to help blend everything together. The foam hills have not been permanently attached to the layout yet. I'm gonna file/sand/smooth their bases out a little more before gluing them to the layout. That light switch will also be painted sky blue at some point.

One more shot of the current end of track. (continuation of rail seen in lower right corner of the panorama above) Scenery application wise, this segment is one step behind the deeper scene shown above. Over the past couple days, the previously RR tie brown painted track was masked off, then tan colored "dirt" paint and fine ground cover blends affixed to the surrounding areas. Next will come more fine gray track ballast. Flat structures and small town / rural scenic details will be painted onto the backdrop as well.

I like how the layout is starting to look, but a question:  will the track extend further to the left?

Looking good.  You should have some fun switching opportunities with that track layout.

Oh yeah, it sure does. There is a lift out bridge to the left that connects this small area to the main 20' x 70' two level layout.

Thanks for providing the link.  That's a great layout and well-designed web page.  How many members do you have?  Do dues cover your rent and utiltities?  Thanks.

Great job on the layout work! Coming along really nicely.

What brand/model is the dark green, very long profile building with the long loading dock at lower right in the last photo? It looks like a kitbash but I can't place the model of origin, and it looks exactly like something I'd like to build for a spot on our layout.

Thank you!

Roughly 40 members, and yes the monthly dues cover all club costs, rent, utilities, layout construction.

The long green structure is a modified Walthers Valley Citrus Packers kit.

Mr MRL:

Thank you! Now that vaugely-familiar wall shape comes into focus.
