Proto 2-10-2
Author: ALCO630

Is this basedon a specific prototype or just a generic engine? In photos I,ve seen it looks fairly close to Erie or IC.

I thought it was based on a Seaboard Air Line 2-10-2.  I know they had some, even 2-10-0's and some 2-6-6-4's.

USRA design, no? Used by Colorado & Southern and Erie? BTW, USRA engines could be considered prototype "generics" in a way. Same designs used on many railroads.

These 2-10-2s are "Heavy" USRA. The Bachmann 2-10-2s are "Light" USRA's. (I am talking about HO gauge). wag216

I did some further research on the SAL Santa Fe type 2-10-2's.  Ten (road numbers 2400-2409) were built by Baldwin in 1918 with 63" drivers and classed as "B" on the railroad.  They were equipped with Vanderbilt tenders.  Retired between 1948 and 1950.  The B-1 class was also built by Baldwin in 1919 with 57" drivers and numbered 2485 to 2499 with rectangular tenders.  They lasted until 1950-1953.
I'm not sure what the Proto 2000 model is based on - I don't have a photo for comparison or any other details on the HO version.

Mine is the "as delivered" Colorado and Southern 2-10-2. They were later modified to look quite different.
