Bowser provides an updated answer on the new motors
Author: brfriedm

Hey,

I asked Bowser on their facebook page the following:

-----------
Hello. Bowser discussed months ago about a newer improved motor coming for your HO engines. You mentioned that the first engine to have the new improved motor is your new HO CP SD40-2's. Will this engine have an improved motor and will you be introducing the new motor in other models? If so, which ones? Finally will there be retrofit new motors for past runs? Thanks
--------

Answer from Bowser:

All new production from the C 636 onward have the improved motors. These will be available as replacement / upgrade parts eventually but they will not be available until some time later next year.

--------
So this is great news. Looking forward to trying the new motors. I have one of the HO CP SD40-2's on order. So I will report on the new motor after I get one. Now we just have to get Intermountain and Atlas to follow suit!

Thanks Bruce

Dear ? (why can't people sign their names)

That's a separate issue altogether. Not related to motors with poor torque which Bowser has admitted too. Kudos to them,

Bruce

Update, Bowser also stated the following:

Please note that these are not necessarily drop in replacements on other chassis'. The frames and drive line may need to be modified to accept the different motor.

I had heard these motors have a different footprint then the older motors so this is not suprising but unfortunate.

The old motors are shorter tha common motors from Kato and Genesis. The inside corners of the well inside the fuel tank the motor sits in are filled with metal as part of the original casting. I think there will be notable Dremel tool with a cutting bit to open enough room for a larger, more powerful motor.

I bought one locomotive from Bowser years ago and sorry to say never again.  My problem was the poor electrical pick-ups on the axles.  I had to add several more to get the locomotive to run.  After all that
I am still not happy with it.

The new stuff (C430's and C636's) have turned in great service to match Bowser's excellent customer service.  They deserve a second chance.
