Model Railroading > O Scale West, Classic Layout On Tour

In 1975 Dexter Day, Master Scale O Gauge modeler, and long time General Manager of the Niles Canyon Railway in Fremont, California,
began building an scale O Gauge layout in the garage of his friend Bob Dupont in Bob's San Mateo California garage.

Over the years, the layout that features both scale O and On3, has won numerous awards and has been featured many times in model
railroad magazines.

Bob Dupont passed away last year and his wife wanted to have the historic layout on display at least one more time for O Gauge West.  For
the last several weekends, Dexter and friends worked to get the layout operational. With the track cleaned, broken wire connections  and, switches
back in operation, today we focused on getting Dexter's extensive collection pf Northern Pacific locomotives and scratch built cars back into operation.

Although the layout was never upgraded to operate in DCC, it features great detail, most of which was developed by the late Bob Dupont.

My first trip to O scale west will be this year and am looking forward to it very much will have a friend who has worked the event from the start helping me out too.

I remember the DuPonts from their San Mateo hobby shop. Always a pleasure to go there with this very nice couple running it.
