Model Railroading > Thinner for floquilDate: 06/20/16 22:09 Thinner for floquil Author: campgus I have a few bottles of Floquil paint, but no Dio-sol, what can I use for a thinner?
How about for brusxh cleanup? Thanks, Gus Date: 06/20/16 22:26 Re: Thinner for floquil Author: rag I'm interested if anything new comes up for an answer to your question. I investigated this months ago when it was brought up. What I found was a 50/50 mixture of xylene and tyulol (excuse the spelling) and a very small amount of Floquil Retarder, I think. Good Luck.

Both of which you will be able to purchase at your local Ace Hardware Store. -John (Yes, I do work at an Ace) Date: 06/21/16 04:46 Re: Thinner for floquil Author: SPDRGWfan IIRC, Diosol was listed as containing "Toluol" which is listed a commercial form of Toluene.
Toluene is a common solvent, e.g. for paints, paint thinners, silicone sealants,[20] many chemical reactants, rubber, printing ink, adhesives (glues), lacquers, leather tanners, and disinfectants Use of a respirator is strongly advised when working with the stuff; it is a VOC I used to test for as a part of the BTEX suite using a gas chromatograph back in my environmental consulting days. Benzene, Toluene, Ethyl benzene and Xylenes (meta, para and ortho). Basically a suite of petrolium based volatile organic compounds. Cheers, Jim Fitch Edited 1 time(s). That's back in the '70s and I think they changed the formula since then and you can't really get nitrocellulose lacquer any more anyway. Worked pretty darned good.

Gerry Date: 06/22/16 07:53 Re: Thinner for floquil Author: obsessedfoamer Cheap Laquer Thinner is best. You don't need brand name crap.
