Trainworx HO Dropframe Trailers are out
Author: SPDRGWfan

HO piggy back fans rejoice!  Trainworx HO Drop Frame trailers out now.  Finally a good drop frame for HO people and in some popular road names: ATSF, UP, GN, SCL/L&N, N&W, MILW and ICG.  I've put in an order for some to mix in with the nice Athearn Fruehauf 40' trailers.

It looks like they should be popular which is good news; I'm hoping Trainworx will follow suite and offer their standard 40' trailer appropriate for 1960's and 1970's intermodal.

Cheers, Jim Fitch

For those wondering, the prototype is a Brown. Finally somebody doing a 60-70's era trailer other than Fruehauf.
Thank you Trainworx!

Thanks for the info arwye!  You are welcome Harry!

The photo's displayed at my east coast vendor MBK look very nice!  I would have liked to order one of every name but settled for N&W, ATSF, ICG, SCL/LN and MILW.  I was perusing some 1970's D&RGW photo's on one of the railpictures.net and found a picture that shows piggy back trailers behind the motive power which include two identifiable drop frames ICG and ATSF, and a third a the edge of the photo, possibly CR.

http://www.railpictures.net/photo/403925/

At this writing, the first four of the names I listed above are already sold out at MBK which I take is a good sign that Trainworx will likely offer more and hopefully bring their nice standard 40' 1960's/1970's trailer to HO scale as well.

Judging from what Trainworx has done in N-scale, I am very excited and hopeful we will see some duplicated in HO such as BUD of California, City Market, Apha Beta, and of course many RR names as well.

Good Luck on this one.  Modeltrainstuff has one UP trailer left.  It says two per customer (which is now moot), and no restock expected.

Yes, most sold out in a little over twelve hours - thats MBK for popular items.  I think it was no more than two of any number the limit, so I'm guessing if you had the money, you could order 42 trailers (7 roadnames, 3 numbers each) and up to 2 of each.  Moot for me.  Some dealers may not have them in yet so check your favorite vendor.

I recall the early 1970's. Here in Chicago it was very common for the ICG and Santa Fe trailers to be pulled by tractors (cabs?) of the same railroad! ICG had solid orange Ford tractors and Santa Fe had blue and yellow ones. I vaguly recall that Santa Fe may have had some tractors painted red and yellow as well, but don't quote me on that!

I have slides of a brand new GN one taken in 1967.  NP also had theirs in 1968. Hope the Northern Pacific is in the 2nd run. Richard Yaremko

Prototype for the ICG, N&W, SCl/LN looks to be a Great Dane.  The MILW & ATSF prototype is the Brown. They should be visibly different.

1)  Here are a couple of the new Trainworx dropframes earning their keep at the back of a piggy back block - an ICG and ATSF.

2) ATSF drop frame next to the Southern Athearn Fruehauf ahead of a caboose.

I just received a couple of the Trainworx HO dropframe trailers.I have more on order. Wow did Trainworx hit the "ball out of the park". Not only did they do a couple of style of trailers that needed to be done in HO scale they did a greay job. Well worth the wait. All the clearance lights on the trailers and ACI labels. All they need now are license plates and some weathering. I hope Trainworx will do some more HO scale trailers that have not been done. Thses are great additions for HO modelers.
