Question, did SP&S use the F7A in freight service?

Not saying it never happened, but most images you see of them are in passenger service. That there were only four "A" units makes the latter statement seem more logical. After the BN merger and still in SP&S paint would seem more likely. As BN units the 803-806 were renumbered to 9754, 9756, 9758, and 9760.

Check the various SP&S books. I believe the old Charles Woods book has a picture of F-units on freight on the OE line through Salem OR.

This was made of pipe to cool compressor air before it went to the main reservoirs to try to condense out moisture and remove it so it stayed out of the reservoir to cause rusting. SP&S, NP and MILW all used it out west. Details West has a soft metal casting for it and Overland used to make it in brass.
