Let's See Your "Works in Progress"
Author: LarryDoyle

After putting it off for three years, I got around to finish painting the clerestory windows on my scratchbuilt enginehouse.this week.  It had been one of those details that was waiting to be completed when I got a round TUIT.

Wouldn't you know?  I pulled the masking take tape off and peeled some of the dark paint along with it.  Darn.

Well, I could jump right in with some more paint and do some touch up.  But, I thought, no I kinda like the new look of a "work in progress".  I assigned one of my workmen to the task of doing some "needed repairs" and touchup.- until I get another round TUIT.

Alright...I'd like to play along...

This is my not-quite-completed curved industry building, not served by rail, but right down by the tracks. I'm building this to fill in that sort of triangular space at the end of the layout where the tracks have to either turn back 180 degrees or run off the edge and into space. The large door is a photo from a local machine shop that I've re-touched to change the colour, and the windows are photos of the windows on an old one-time spark plug factory also located here in town.

Here's my "work in progress".   Created quite a stir down on Railroad Avenue.  Even got the local TV crew filming an interview for the nightly news.

My latest project is to add a few covered hoppers for cement service to the active fleet on the Onondaga Cutoff, to support a new industry coming on line.

Here are a pair of Athearn 'RTR' 2-bay ACF hoppers:

1 - Getting their wheelsets modified to become resisitive wheelsets, compatible with the CTC on the layout.

2 - Dullcoat, airbrushed grime, and some oil & pastel chalk rust added, with 'cement spills' drying.

3 - Finalized with additional pastel weathering chalks worked to blend in the 'older' spills.

It will be a busy fall of backdrop installation, scenery installation, and model photography to document it all!

Nothing worse than a clean workbench!
