Model Railroading > Tangent PRR/PC G43 Gondolas and Steel Coils Back In Stock

This serves as just a brief announcement to let everybody know that if you are looking for the staple HO scale PRR /PC Shops G43 gondolas from Tangent, we now have 6 new road numbers available in PRR original G43 / PC G43B (wood floors, cushion draft gear) / PC G43C (steel floors, non-cushion) / CR with coil racks. These are the same schemes we offered in May 2016, but with new number selections because the earlier cars sold out. Also, our beautiful steel coils are available again in 8 packs, enough for 2 cars.

Guys...You can't go wrong adding these gons with coiled steel  as loads to your operations, they track well and look good....

This is great news!  For what it's worth, I imagine that a bunch of us would also enjoy the Conrail paint scheme on standard (non-coil service) G43's, which I believe were in the 570xxx series.  

Here is my PC car getting a Dullcoat layer last night - attached.

Nice work Alex.  We at Tangent are very aware of the non-coil Conrail versions and we will offer those down the track a bit...

Great looking gon however, it needs a lot of dents and dings on the car!  Nice work.

David, a really nice car.  Even though it's not right for my time or place I still get great enjoyment out of seeing a nice Tangent car!

Is the Conrail version the only one with Steel Coil racks or did the pre-1988 versions have racks too?

You're right - but I'm reluctant to do so. Got any advice? Heat gun was "too much" - melted a car that way!

I have documented 3 examples of cars out west (Milwaukee Road Pacific Extension, Cajon Pass, and somewhere unidentified on ATSF, UP, or SP).  There is also an example waybill for a car that never even touched PC rails, but instead was a B&O to GM&O to Birmingham Southern routing. 

These cars hauled steel products amongst other things from PRR / PC / CR origins nationwide... and to Canada.

I noticed the CR gon is specifically shown as coming with the steel coil cradle.  Do the Pennsy and PC gondola's come with steel coil cradels too?

BTW, I believe I have noticed cradels as extra parts with some of my other gondolas such as those from Walthers.

Thanks for asking Jim.  The answer is no, PRR/PC do not come with steel cradles because the real cars were not fitted with coils.  If those cars carried coils (keep in mind that was only one of their many intended services) the coils were braced with wood blocks in handmade cradles, or the coils were set on their ends over the trucks.

David, I did read those pages already which is why I was beginning to suspect it was only the CR cars with built in steel coil cradles.  Thanks for confirming.  The CR cars are too late for me being 1970's and early 1980's so I'll use the steel coils in some of my other gondolas, which I've been wanting to load and been looking for coils for them.  Yours should work well!  And as you mentioned, I could put coils in the PRR/PC cars using cribbing etc.
