Scenery Update
Author: dlh

Been rather busy the past three months completing scenery on the Sierra Northern.

Photo 1 - An SP SD9 on local freight WWCP (Westwood to Calpine) has stopped at a wood lot in Sutro, California to pick up two loaded flats. While there they'll also pick up two hoppers of ore from the Molly-B-Damned Molybdenum mine.

Photo 2 - In a stagged publicity photo two Sierra Northern RSD-12's travel between Susanville and Boca Junction with a lumber train in tow. The SP F's will be waiting for this train to clear Westwood Junction (just ahead) before continuing to Calpine. Meanwhile, a Sierra Northern RS27 on the EV Local heads for EV Junction on the Quartzite branch.

Enjoy!!!!!

Hi Dan,
Nice looking layout! Are you Dan Hadley the videographer? If so, I know you. Take care,

Nice looking layout. Who painted your backdrop?

First thing I did after building benchwork and placing 1/8th inch hardboard up for the backdrop was to paint. So before any track was laid or even the surface for the track to go on, I painted the backdrop. That way I could reach it without destyroying anything. There was only one problem, I didn't know how to paint anything but a wall. I took a stab at it and although it was somewhat crude it had promise. I know a woman who is an artist of very good quality and she came over at my request to see what I'd done. She tried not to giggle but explained the basics that I'd not ever thought of. From that point on I "got it" and each time I'd paint it just got better and better. I spent 9 months painting the backdrop before ever laying any track. Total length of backdrop is approx 120 ft.
