Union Pacific Steam on the Grand Road
Author: grandroad

Mid last month I posted some photos of Union Pacific steam power on my N scale Grand Road (see http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,4179711,4179717#msg-4179717). This led to a new project and I ended up taking more photos of my good friend Dean Dickerhoof's 1953 era engines. My layout models contemporary, so I had to be careful not to catch the solar powered flange oilers and solar powered hotbox and dragging equipment detectors in the photos.
1. UP No. 838, a freight FEF-3 (Four Eight Four) starts the final climb up the western slope of the Colorado Rockies. In the foreground is a Big Boy No. 4020.
2. UP No. 838 gets ready to split the signals above Terror Creek Lake. These signals are scratch-built three light deep hood signals which did not exist in 1953, but, we'll just ignore that fact.
3. Same engine and train as in 2, but, from another angle

More coming.

4. FEF-3 on bridge approach.
5. A staged lineup of the FEF-3, Big Boy #4020 and Challenger #3985.
6. Another shot from a little different angle.

Last three coming.

7. The Challenger No. 3985 on the Terror Creek deck girder bridge.
8. To fill out the three images per post I have include a shot of Amtrak #6 pulling into Terror Creek depot.
9. A tank car train is rolling thru Terror Creek relocating empties from the west coast to Denver for refilling with specialty chemicals.

Thanks for looking.

I'm more of an SP guy, but those shots #5 & #6 got my heart racing a bit! Gotta love the new N scale steam!
That layout's no slouch either!
Any video? ;-)
Thanks for the pix.

I'm more of a Rio Grande guy, but yes, some excellent N-scale scenery and trains - eye candy for sure!
