details for HO sliding plug door reefers
Author: fbe

Does anyone know of a supplier for these rods, handles, latch mechanism and door stops? This will be for a 5'7" wide, 7'3" tall door on DSDX 4600 a MILW ribside boxcar converted to an insulated boxcar for beer service.

The Grandt Line parts are for swinging reefer doors. Exact Rail is selling parts for their 8' wide taller doors.

Thanks for any help.

A reefer model with a 6' sliding door would also provide the necessary parts.

Somewhere in my hobby closet I have a couple of the old Pacific HO reefer kits stashed away. I am thinking one of those flat kits might give me what I need. Now to find them.

I found a car from Pacific HO but the door hardware is molded on this not free standing. The molded on hardware from an Accurail 40' plug door boxcar might be easier to shave off though that idea is still not very attractive.

Precision Scale offers a brass casting for all the rollers, rods and the latch for an express car door. This looks to be what I need though there are no dimensions for the assembly given.

The part number is 32005 and a pair costs less than $3.00 unless the price has gone up.

We will see how this works out.

How about the plug door parts from the Branchline steel REA express reefer?

I am not aware of that car or those parts. I guess I will have to check out http//shop.atlasrr.com to see if I can find them. I am going to end up with quite a parts pile before I am done it seems.

Thanks.
