Model Railroading > Challenger 3985 returns to the railsDate: 09/25/17 07:37 Challenger 3985 returns to the rails Author: Bob3985 This weekend UP Challenger 3985 returned to the rails following a shopping with a much improved performance level.
My Lionel Challenger some time back decided to quit and never to run again but I contacted my friend (Steve)and lined up a shopping. Following installation of a new Soundtrax decoder the ole gal is back out on the rails taking a test run. Then it was to the Cheyenne & Green River Wye by Union Avenue Yard for company photos. After this the 3985 pulled a short test coal train to break in the new work and get the hogger (me) used to the functions. I finished up the day (it was 45 degrees outside the mall) running 3985 on my rotary plow train. I wanted to post that photo but no matter what I try TO keeps flipping my image of that run upside down. So when I get this figured out I will post it as well. Have a great week and Froehliche Oktoberfest (Happy Octoberfest). Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY Date: 09/25/17 07:56 Re: Challenger 3985 returns to the rails Author: HotWater Cool! I see you converted her back to coal burning.

Our layout is a model of mainly nowhere but looks like anywhere in the US. Not a good marketing move. Perhaps there needs to be parts from a DC3 as well.
It is good to know a new decoder from a reliable manufacturer will straighten out the foibles from Lionel/MTH. Date: 09/25/17 17:11 Re: Challenger 3985 returns to the rails Author: ProAmtrak Nice Bob, I'm still so so with my SD40T-2 that has pick up problems on its front truck!

My friends know a guy in Greeley Colorado who does some of my trouble shooting for me. I don't have anything that modern so I am not sure as to what to tell you. I'm sure it is a nice feeling to get a piece of equipment back on the road. Particularly, when it is your favorite.

Thanks Paul. Ever since the evening we put the idea together to restore the 3985 that ole gal has been in my heart. It was always a pleasure to be able to help operate it over the road. Is there a UP Steam Crew chase truck somewhere?

I had same thing happen to a photo on TO, which my camera was set to take square (2976 x 2976 = 1:1 ratio) photos on purpose, for ebay. (Instead of 4:3 or 16:9). Sometimes had same problem uploading to another site, with normal rectangular photos. Tried rotating them 90° and 180° on my camera or PC photo gallery, then they eventually uploaded correctly. On the Sherman Hill model railroad.
