Model Railroading > Athearn SD-40 questionDate: 09/26/17 09:46 Athearn SD-40 question Author: tomstp A discounter is showing these engines for clearance sale : Ready to run MP SD-40 and says with DCC and Sound and priced at $117.92. I never knew Athearn put them out with DCC and sound. Could that be correct?

The sound decoder is a little simpler than a full-on whoop-de-do Tsunami, and the detailing is road name specific but not as comprehensive as Genesis.

A check at Athearn's website and it's all there: http://www.athearn.com/Search/Default.aspx?SearchTerm=SD40+MP Looks like they still have most of the MP SD40's in stock, both DCC ready and DCC sound equipped. As others commented, Athearn made new tooling/molds for the SD40 and has been offering them in various road names for the past several years. Prior to this, Athearn had offered SD40's in the RTR line based on the old RPP molds. I'm still waiting for the original SP SD40 to be announced - surprised they haven't since Athearn is big on SP. They did do the 1980's SP SD40R's already. Cheers, Jim Fitch Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/26/17 10:50 by SPDRGWfan. Very nice model, esp when compared to the older blue box tunnel motors. Date: 09/26/17 15:36 Re: Athearn SD-40 question Author: SPDRGWfan An Athearn SD40T-2 with DCC factory equipped? I have been buying tunnel motors including the most recent runs and haven't seen DCC versions, only DC ready versions. Link to the DCC version?

Larry Date: 09/27/17 02:47 Re: Athearn SD-40 question Author: SPDRGWfan That would be the logical explanation.
