Broadway limited AC6000 exhaust stacks
Author: g-spotter1

I have been searching the web trying to find a good "down on" photo of a GE AC6000 that clearly shows the exhaust stacks. The exhausts that BLI provided are too far apart and anemic in appearance. Are they similar is size to the Gevo stacks, even the same? I really feel that BLI seriously muffed this important detail. Anyone have a good photo of these?

Maybe this will help? From West Colton Yard, Bloomington, CA, June of 2015.

Just a friendly head's up, what you posted is a 4400HP converted 6000 or a "6044". Some were built for UP this way, while the 6000HP machines were converted to this configuration in a rebuild a few years ago. The big spotting difference is the 4400HP locomotives will have a single stack where the 6000HP locomotives will have two square stacks (exhaust silencers) as seen in the links Betsy posted. As far as I know UP no longer has any 6000HP 7HDL-16 powered AC6000CW running, they have all been converted.

The 6000HP UP locomotives were converted to 4400HP 7FDL-16 prime movers like a AC4400CW (and CSXT 600-602), The silencer appears to be the same on these units as the AC4400CW. The rest of the CSX fleet was derated to 4400HP, but kept the GEVO-16 engine. (They were converted from 7HDL some years ago) These locomotives keep the 2 stacks, but they sit lower in the carbody than they did with the 7HDL-16 engine. (*edit*, I should also add these stacks are not the same as the ES44AC or ET44AC stack on the GEVO-12)

These pictures are from a CSX AC6000CW still with its 7HDL-16 engine taken about mid 2004, a UP AC6000CW from the same vintage would look the same. IMHO Broadway made the silencers too skinny.
