Model Railroading > Atlas headlights;Date: 01/03/02 12:00 Atlas headlights; Author: gtirr Has anyone had any problems with the new Atlas Dash 8-40's headlights?
A buddy of mine received a pair for Xmas and after a short time of running forward, the front headlight just goes off. When you stop the engine and re-start it, the light will come back on only to go off again after about 2 laps around his layout. Both engines (BNSF) will do this. But the rear headlights are fine when running backwards. After talking with Atlas this morning, they are thinking that maybe the DCC decoders might be the problem. Since we don use DCC, Atlas is going to be good enough to send out a couple of replacement light boards and we can eliminate the decoders completly. Atlas said this is the first they've heard of this problem. Anyone else having this problem? gtirr Date: 01/03/02 12:36 RE: Atlas headlights; Author: tmotor I've got the ATSF 502 and it exhibits the exact same behavior. I am planning to convert to DCC so I wan't going to worry too much about it, but thanks for letting me know I didn't get the only lemon in the bunch...

I have an Atlas Dash 8-40 in NS. No problems to report. Cabin Date: 01/03/02 14:45 RE: Atlas headlights; Author: Amtrak-30 Hey Russ
I've got the SF 502 and I am having no problems. Right now this loco is racking up most of the mileage on my line, always on the point and running on Digitrax. Jason Amtrak 30 Date: 01/03/02 15:04 RE: Atlas headlights; Author: WSFrench This response from Atlas is pure Bull. I raised
this same issue with them shortly after the new Atlas forum was brought back. There were MANY MANY MANY people saying they had a problem. And Atlas acknowledged it was a design flaw. Once again the said it was because of the DCC decoder. But was limited to units running DC. But others say it still involves DC and DCC. I have two GP40 units and they also due the same thing. I have 4 Dash 8 40Bs and 1 Dash 8 40 BW. They all due the same thing. You might want to check back near the beginning of the Atals forum. Bill |
