Model Railroading > Genesis AMTK SDP40F phI delivery?

Horizon says on their dealer preorder pages this pointed nose model with the two wide stripe paint will not be delivered until September 2018. This is nearly a year after the blunt nosed version was delivered.

Is this true or is it just a swag by Horizon to overestimate delivery so they are never late?

That is the proper date. It is scheduled for September 2018.

I hope they correct the name on the side of the locomotive. It looks like they placed it towards the rear but from the photos I've seen of Phase II SDP40Fs the name is centered.

The paint diagrams have been changed. the website has not updated. I will see that it is corrected.

That's an incredible delay for a model which already has all the drive components and most all of the body components already in production.

Other producers are bringing out more variations of a similar model in the same production runs. I thought Athearn would follow that line closer.

What about the San Francisco Zephyr SDP40F with the ice breakers. Are those going to be coming our way this decade?

When that happens it could be because the tooling was designed with all of the part variants in the same tool. If there is a larger part (eg. a body) then a separate needs to be cut. More likely, a revising of the tool is done. This latter option is one reason why second runs of an initial product can be not financially viable.

All variations will be produced at some point. It will take some time......
