Random BNSF Stack Train
Author: MrMRL

Just sharing a few pics of a random BNSF stack train I ran at my local train club last week. Train had a quartet of Kato GEs up front and 42 40'-48' (short) wells behind. A run of the mill port train with international containers on top. A couple pics of the BNSF leader and a UP Dash-9 mixed in.

A few roster pics of some of the articulated stack cars, A-line/InterMountain, & Athearn RTR. Some are now rather dated for 2017 operations, but they run problem free and blend in relatively well with the feel of the train.

Lastly a snap of the leader exiting one of the layout's darker tunnels.

And some Twin Stacks still in service at this late date. When I lived in Syracuse, I used to see those come through town regularly about 10 years ago. I have several sets of Sea Land and yellow SP TT I bought when I was modeling late 1980's D&RGW but I've kept them for some one off late era trains.

Love the Maersk patches!! did you paint the patchwork or came that way out of the box? Weathering looks great on articulated cars.

Maersk car was first weathered, then patched with Microscale Light Blue Trim Film (TF-19). Actually modeled that car about 10 years ago now. Amazing that the Athearn Maxi-I model is already 10 years old!

Excellent modeling. Looks like the trains that roll through here, especially on BNSF!

Thanks Harry. At least this thread title wasn’t misleading any SP diehards...

Love the patching on the well cars. You know, after modelling US RR's for twenty years, it only just dawned on me to put shorter well cars in my consists to give the illusion of longer train length. More cars will fit within the maximum length for the layout.
