Model Railroading > Back into Model Railroading With A Switching LayoutDate: 05/10/18 21:46 Back into Model Railroading With A Switching Layout Author: nkark Hi All,
Back on TO after a 7 or 8 year hiatus. Have not had a permanent layout in a long time so decided to put together a switching shelf after reading some of Lance Mindheim's publications and looking at the great small layouts website (www.carendt.com). The layout is 80" long and 16" deep. HO scale with all code 83 Micro Engineering flextrack and Peco #6 switches. Frogs are powered by Blue Point turnout controls. I got a neat LED striplight set from Home Depot that came with a dimmer and built the valence out of "L" angle aluminum and thin wood strip. It's been a lot of fun so far, thinking about some type of operational system to randomly draw cards for car movements or something. I usually just assemble a short train on the main and go about replacing the cars with the ones on the spurs. Thanks for looking! Of late there's been a number of 'switching layouts' that don't have a run-around track, not sure what that's all about. This example has all the elements, looks like a lot of fun. t4p. TJY Date: 05/11/18 08:34 Re: Back into Model Railroading With A Switching Layout Author: Waybiller That’s a gem of a layout. I’m also building a switching layout and would love to get some hints, tips, etc on how you make your grass/ground cover. That looks very realistic.
Edit: After using the search feature I noticed you did an explanation already on your scenery work. Thanks! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/11/18 09:58 by Waybiller. Noah Date: 05/12/18 06:31 Re: Back into Model Railroading With A Switching Layout Author: 1019X Great layout, an inspiration for sure. I am guessing with the 80"X 16" dimensions that this was built on a hollow core bi fold door panel?
