California Northern Font Help!
Author: RyanWilkerson

Anyone know what font this is? A friend it working on painting this car for me and is making the decals but hasn't found the font yet. Anyone know?

The car is former GN 1290 Appekunny Mountain and also wore SP daylight colors.

Yes, here is one. Not my photo (saved it off the web) but shows a nice side view.

Nice work Robby!!!
Have you already researched this car's font or are you just a font wizard?

Thanks for the help.

There are several free websites out there that scan uploaded jpeg imagery to identify mystery fonts. I've used these in the past while taking Advertising & Design courses in college.

https://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/
https://www.whatfontis.com/

I simply cropped out just the large "CALIFORNIA NORTHERN" lettering from your straight-on provided image above and let the site (whatfontis.com) crunch the pixels to track down the closest match. It provides dozens of close matches...

I've successfully used Whatthefont numerous times, but it's upload software isn't working at the moment for some reason...

Robby,
I had no idea that existed. Thanks for doing the work to find the font and sharing the knowledge!

That font is close but a little thicker than the one on the car.

Just use your typesetting software (I use Quark Express) to condense it to 90% of original size and it comes out right. The font I have is just called Aachen (Post Script font)

That’s why I mentioned the correct font should be the Semibold (condensed) variant. I could only finda ready made alphabet image of the bold font.
