St Louis (Collinsville) RPM Meet Photos
Author: K8CNW

I had the pleasure of attending the 2018 Prototype Modelers Meet in Collisville, IL late last week. Our HO modular layout, the Ohio Valley Sipping & Switching Society, was invited to attend. It was the first time any of our members have visited the show and we weren't dissapointed. There were hundreds of amazing models from around the world. I spent most of the show running trains and talking with exhibitors & visitors but I took several photos of the event. The quality isn't great as these are from my cell phone but you get the idea.

Here are web links for the event as well as our website if you would like to learn more:

That Drott container lifter has over 600 parts and had a 30 page instructoin book on how to put it together. It was AWESOME!! The pictures of the models did NOT do them justice. There wasn't a bad model there.

There were a few steam locomotives and older equipment there but the vast majority was more modern freight equipment.

IMHO, the best model at the show was an O-Scale Berk

It was made by Mike Brusky from Dimensional Modeling Concepts. 97% was 3D printed. He has an article in a recent issue of Railroad Model Craftsman on the project. You can also order a kit and other parts from his website: https://dmcrrproducts.com/

That's ironic, I just received a text from John O'Donnell at Moon Dog Rails with his business card wanting me to call and discuss 3D Printing. Thanks

The meet has continued to grow. Attendance was 664!! For the two days, with approximately 3700 models. So pictures of all the models might be difficult.

This was my third time, second in the last two years and the show was even better than last years. It was very hard to get to everything, and do it all. Not because of people, but the sheer numbers of great things to see and attend. I missed a couple of clinics that I would have liked to see just by not getting back to them. Lots of quality vendors and manufacturers that had off the wall things-not just the average train show stuff, but detail parts, decals and pieces that aren't easily found in most shops. The models were top notch, and ranged from early steam through the transition era and into modern equipment in ALL scales including those you don't see often. The 1:87 vehicle modelers had a section just for themselves and had some amazing cranes and module displays. The number of models made photos of everything difficult to accomplish-I'm sure somebody did it, but I suspect that's ALL they did.

One thing I noticed was the number of attendees from all ages showing models and giving demos. All were more than willing to share the idea and technique behind their models.

This one has become a must do show-even with an 8 hour drive The large number of folks I spoke with that came from even further away agreed with this observation.

This is Mike from Dimensional Modeling Concepts - actually the Drott crane model is only 326 parts, but that's still a lot.  Kits of this late 70s model (and an early 70s version) can be purchased on our website at dmcrrproducts.com.  There is also an option for purchasing an assembled model.  These are 3D printed parts in ABS plastic, so they are easily assembled using acetone to join the pieces.

The manufacturer is Dimensional Modeling Concepts.  They are a new company making 3D printed items.  You can find them at https://dmcrrproducts.com to purchase any of their items.
