Where can I find.......
Author: trainwayne

Anyone know of an available, american prototype dry bulk trailer, like those used to haul plastic pellets and the like? I want to build a trans-load facility for covered hoppers to truck, but can\'t find anything that\'s remotely similar to the hundreds of these type of trailers that you see going down the road everyday.

Herpa (Promotex) makes a Mack CH 603 and Bulk Tank Trailer (No. 006279) that\'s pretty close. I\'ll be using it for my bulk cement plant.
If you dig you may find something else there.

What scale are you modeling? There is a company that is called A. Smith that makes 1/48 scale items perfect for "O" scale and they are really nice trucks. A. Smith trucks and trailers are expensive, but the detail is great. The attached picture is from DHS Diecast website. http://www.dhsdiecast.com/index.cfm

Hey, drop in to Lonestar Models and let them know. Maybe they\'ll build them for future production.

It\'s the only way manufacturers will know exactly what we want...

Transload Facility

Have seen a few that are nothing more than a siding w/ only a K.I.S.S. transfer contraption & a truck/trailer 2/b loaded. So your trailer would be the hardest thing to model.

Thanks for the comments! What I\'m looking for is an HO scale model similar to the 1:48 one in the above post. The HO offerings are nowhere close to the american prototypes. There are a lot more of these trailers in everyday use than, for example, cattle trailers, (for which an excellent model is offered) yet no one has seen fit to build a good model of one. I work next to a trans-load facility that nearly always has 30-40 covered hoppers waiting to be unloaded, and these type of trailers are in and out dozens of times a day.

I\'m not completely sure the type of unit you\'re looking for, sounds like this type of truck would be great on any layout (mine incl\'d)..

Check this site out: BOLEY Corp, great detail, all for HO (1/87)...and most are under 10.00
