Model Railroading > The MFM modular layoutDate: 12/23/02 06:13 The MFM modular layout Author: jalajoie As part of a local shopping mall Xmass promotion, the Modelistes Ferroviaires de la Mauricie where exposing their modular layout for 11 consecutive days.
That layout took some 20 members 3 years to built and is now about 12 years old. It is 12x28 feet, DCC and can be put up and dismantled within 1 hour by 6 individuals. This fall we took 3 months to refurbish it a bit, redone the electricity, modified/moved/removed some buildings, renewed the vehicules to a more modern ara and redone some scenery. All photos shown were taken by Claude Larouche from Trois-Rivieres Quebec. The first photo show what we call the Lumberman museum. It is early 1930 setting and the work of one member, now deaceased. That scene is entirely scratch built, featuring handlaid HOn30 trackwork including stub turnouts and dual gauge diamond crossing. We call it a museum so we can run modern rolling stocks on it. http://members.trainorders.com/jalajoie/modules/sylvaina.jpg This view is of one side of the layout, featuring a small town with a siding deserving a few small industries. http://members.trainorders.com/jalajoie/modules/dsc00064.jpg The other side is a yard including engines facilities and a wood chip unloading platform. That CSX is a Kato Dash9 one of the 7 locos I used at the show. http://members.trainorders.com/jalajoie/modules/vueavanta.jpg This the far side, it is residential with a park. There are road work being done on this residential area. http://members.trainorders.com/jalajoie/modules/coin1a.jpg A close up of those roadwork. These vehicules where custom painted and wheathered by Denis Doucet one of our members. http://members.trainorders.com/jalajoie/modules/asphaltte3a.jpg Date: 12/23/02 07:25 Re: The MFM modular layout Author: wabash2800 Vivala France or Quebec? My favorite is the construction scene. Hey.. what about our mexican compadres? There MUST be model RR clubs (modular or otherwise) somewhere within that massive metropolis of Mexico City.. welll??? =) Merry Christmas, All!, Harry |
