Model Railroading > Asking for Help: SP PA icicle breaker information

Trying to add the most obvious detail for a set of HO SP PAs. The icicle breakers are right on top.  Without them the model really looks inadequate.  I've tried the Custom Finishing set but would like to do just a little bit better.  Can anyone direct me to a drawing with dimensions?  If it is in any of the magazines my club's library probably has it.  Thaks in advance.  Jeff

Bob Zenk did a great article on modeling SP PA's in Railroad Model Craftsman back in the 70's or 80's. I'd be surprised if Bob didn't go into some detail on the subject of the ice breakers.

It was Mainline Modeler starting in 1/80.

Contact Union Terminal Imports.  I bet they have the measurements.

Gold Medal Models has a sheet of brass parts for SP PAs in N scale including the ice breakers, snow plow pilots, etc. I don't know if they also do HO.

They do not make these parts in HO. N scale only.

Lots of good leads, thanks very much.  I started with the Zenk articles in the second and third issues of Mainline Modeler, he modeles before the dome cars.  Easier I guess.  Again, thanks.  Jeff

While on the subject- what about the bars on the SD9’s in snow service? I’m about to tackle a flanger set and will need bars for the Cadillacs. Any kits or plans out there for these?

Dave's on here just about every day, Dave's work is in the above posted thread as well. Both Betsy and Dave display their models at just about every RPM meet on the West Coast. The photos show up on a number of Flickr and PBase photo collections of the RPM meets.

By using Bob's top shots, you can get real close with proportions. That's what I did on a pair of GP38s and SD9s

Funny thing is, I just started working on some Proto SD9s I've had for 20 years to break up the monotony of beet gons. The pair of SD9s were traded away years ago. Time do do some for myself
SPH&TS Trainline Issue 90 has some SD9E snow service info as well for those interested...

So Jeff, You can try using the custom finishing PN#249 if you can find them or get the Details associates flat brass 0.010 x 0.030 and fabricate them.
