So, I hear there could be ANOTHER ACF 4600 cuft hopper coming...
Author: obsessedfoamer

I've heard rumor there is another manufacturer sniffing around at the ACF 4600 cuft hopper. I may hold off on the Athearn car for now! :)

From what I've seen, probably a good move.  I've decided to pass on these myself.

The Accurail ACF 4600cf is a good budget version...   Certainly not all the details but a very attractive price.
The Genesis ACF 4600cf is selling well and I suspect Athearn might address the end "fit" issues in upcoming runs.
If another manufacturer already has one in the works, I wish them well in what may soon be a flooded market...

If another manufacturer is doing one I can only say that those complaining about the already released ACF4600s are ready to examine that future offering under a microscope, and berate it if they find a flaw...

With two ACF 4600cf covered hopper models already on the market I hope the other manufacturers focus on cars that we have yet to have any HO plastic models of...

Hmmm, I wonder if the rumor you've heard is the same one I've heard....

Well, in fairness, what I've hear is more than rumor. I've shared pics, and I think there may even be some CAD work already underway. It's not my secret to spill, but for what it's worth, I did hear reference to the project on a recent episode of Lionel Strang's "A Modeler's Life" podcast....

Scale Trains tunnel motors are about to put a serious dent in my wallet, so maybe it's best that I hold on 4600s for the time being....

Just got my "in stock ready to ship" email for the T-2's, so the dent is now reality.

Same here, no money for 4600 hoppers either. I just got my invoices from ScaleTrains for tunnel motors also. Serious dent indeed.

Hopefully whomever may or may not be making this has ~199 parts in the car.... :)

It seems unusual that somebody trying to be respectful to the other manufacturers would not know/say that Athearn was already the "second player"...   With the first being the American manufacturered Accurail car.

The Accurail car has the lowest level of detail. And they're happy with that. They make "Layout Quality" cars, not contest winners.

PHall, I agree...   The Accurail car may not be the best detailed but I own several of them and they look great in a unit train when viewed from several feet away.  Some I purchased at $5 each.  I find it somewhat disrespectful that a certain manufacturer would totally discount them from even being on the market.   Not everybody wants to pay $50 for a freight car and when a manufacturer describes his 2-bay 70-ton hopper as "a bargain" at $49 it makes me wonder how much they'll ask for a ACF 4700 covered hopper.
