LA Model Train Store Recommendations
Author: Casselton

I am in LA for the weekend. I am hopping to have time to visit a local hobby shop. Looking for suggestions.
Many thanks, Mark

Define "LA".  Los Angeles, both city and county, encompass a huge area.  Any particular area or suburb?  There's not a whole lot in the way of train stores, but a specific area could help narrow something down.

Alrighty...probably the closest store commute-wise would be Smith Bros. in the valley (disclaimer: never been there since it'd be a long slog in traffic from where I live, but the owner is a model RR'er, and I understand they have an excellent train dept.):
https://smithbrothershobbycenter.com/

Next up in striking distance would probably be The Original Whistle Stop in Pasadena:

If commuting isn't an issue, heading south, you have Railmaster Hobbies in Bellflower (the LHS I frequent):
https://railmasterhobbies.com/

As well as Arnie's in Westminster (northern Orange County):
http://www.arniesmodeltrains.com/

These are the shops in the region that are within reasonable commute distance (1 hr. or so) of where you're at.  Happy hunting!

Hello Mark, and welcome to lala-land!

I am the owner of Smith Brothers Hobby Center in Northridge.   We have a great selection of HO and N scale trains, among a store full of other cool hobbies.

The 405 Freeway will be your ticket.    Shouldn't be too bad in the middle of the day.    Plenty of free parking in our back lot.

Hope you can stop by and say hello.

I'll second the above link to the Train Shack in Burbank. A lot of stuff for all scales, books & magazines, and a couple of real nice layouts as well.
Pleasant and helpful staff too.

I live closest to Smith Bros. in the Valley.  So I'm in there a lot too. Great place!
