Free-mo setup at Evanston Wyomng Roundhouse July10-13 photos
Author: grandeguy

Hello,

We had our 4th annual get together at Evanston in conjunction with NMRA Salt Lake City Convention. There was also a large Free-mo setup at the NTS. We had 395 feet of Mainline track in Evanston with Modules present from Kansas, Colorado,Idaho, Washington and Utah. We had a fantastic time.

Can we see more of the 5771 led train and a bigger photo?

Athearn really needs to re-run 5771 and this time with the "trimmings" since most of us can't afford expensive brass.   It's been 17 years since they ran the RTZ trio!  I have gotten word it's on their to-do list.

Great bunch. Here's prototype 7319 exiting Chatsworth tunnel on the Coast route in JAN '92.

I was squinting hard at the model and prototype SP7319 photos. SP's version of a "Desert Storm" unit. Nice photos.

The roundhouse at Evanston is one of the best venues for a model railroad event, bar none. The place is awesome.

I feel you pain Jim, if it was up to me I would live North of Denver or in Cheyenne...

Thanks Steve.  Having gone through a divorce, recession, child support, pay for college, etc etc I haven't been able to get out west in too long.  Sure miss it!

Ah yes, the GM water based paint job, just like their pickups. Nice Free-Mo pics.

In later years, some called it the Real Grime!
I'm planning to model the caboose era D&RGW (approx 1977-1983) so a little less grime that 10 years later, and of course, cabooses.

I haven’t made it to a model train even there yet, but it is an amazing facility. Now they just need to park a UP steam engine on the turntable!

http://www.free-mo.org/ will have the details you need. I hope to take the leap one of these days. I’ve enjoyed the free-mo setups we’ve seen at the train shows here in Utah over the years.
