Former Allied Models Bldg Sold
Author: needles_sub

The former Allied Models bldg has been sold for 8.2 million.
The development company is going to convert the bldg to office spaces.
With all the high tech companies moving to silicon beach, small office bldgs are in demand.

Your information is correct.  I sold the building and it closed escrow almost 30 years to the day that we first opened for business there on September 18, 1989.  Those sure were the good ol' days!

Hope you are all well,

Allen Drucker

I’m glad I got to visit when it was still the train store.  Still have my 2006 anniversary poster.

Never been there but nice looking shop when it was going.  I bet that building went for a pretty penny now!

Gino was a great guy and like so many train guys, a real character.  I miss him as well.

Allied had the best selection of NWSL parts of any hobby shop. Never had to order anything NWSL. Just went to the store.

I used to stop in every time I was in LA on business (3x yr) and always found a few really nice things to take home.  People were just fantastically friendly.

Are the new owners going to retain the LA Union Station-style exterior or will it be lost to new construction? What happened to Samy's Camers?

Fantastic pics and memories.   So much started there for today's generation, including for myself.    Still going strong here in Northridge.
Thanks for paving the way.

The new owner loves the architecture and is going to retain it, as far as I know.  Samys is still there for now.

See post from BobP above.  As far as I know, Don is doing fine, living in the San Fernando Valley.

Thanks for the look back Allen. My romance with trains
started anew at your store on Pico many years ago, (pre-Internet!) with
a brass steamer my wife bought as a present for
finishing Graduate School.
Loved your yearly auctions and still have a few
items from them.
