track work on the Indiana Live Steamers 2

Here are some more photos of progress on the ILS.  The October weather has been nearly perfect here in Indiana...finally.
Our ballast cars. Each unloads on one side.
Smoothing out the ballast.
The compactor to make the sub road bed solid.  We use washed #8 stone with out "fines."

Photos 1 and 2 show our "wiggler" that settles the top layer of ballast and the ties.  The sub road bed is about 3 1/2 inches then the track is placed and more ballast is put down.
The ties are plastic with hollow spaces.  The ballast settles in nicely.
Ready for the next work day.

Looks like hard work that is excellent. I know some of those gandy dancers.

That should make for a really smooth ride.  Will that be part of the public run route?

Shane, the "loop" could be on a public run if the lines were not too long.  It will add about 3 to 5 minutes to the 15 to 18 minute run.  It will be in the private runs.  And Dog Saze!

Great looking trackwork.   Thinking back, I don't recall ever seeing superelevated curves in live steam.  Would only be a scenic thing anyway.

At about 4 to 5 or 6 MPH, it is not worth it.  However, in this paticular curve the out side rail is 1/4 inch higher.  We wanted to see what it looked like.  Hard to notice.

I agree super isnt needed in this scale but when its negitive instead of positive things bad can happen. Its also very hard to maintain as it will settle out slowly we had a place that one fellow spent weeks doing never could feel it. But we did have some very frisky fellows do a curve for some reason about 100ft of one so bad that you could not stay seated easily took two days to fix it, all track came out, ballast removed and all redone.  I like the tamper set up and how your ballast is at the top of the ties when done track can start moving when its not that high.   But it would be nice to see just a little speck of dirt on that white rock, just saying again....................Boyd in Chiloquin OR ready for our pumping run the next two saturdays.

Looks good.

Do you have a blueprint on how the wiggler was made?
