Walnut Creek 1956
Author: spsniper

It is a slow Sunday night in Walnut Creek in 1956! Other than the sounds of an occasional WP or SP train all is quiet.

Very nice.  Noted the 15 mph speed limit, black and white.  Gerry

I was able to get a personal tour of it in 19 by a long time club memeber and friend. Its one thing to see what the public does but to look at the underside, wiring rooms, operators station without anyone else around is another.  Know several of the original members that did the original builing from the ground up and also the one who made many of the switches with his only arm from scratch. The back story on the club has been told to me several times. Boyd in Chiloquin

Still plenty of mail drop boxes around these days, now if it was a payphone then that would throw them off

I haven't seen a mailbox or payphone in many many years...

I have one of each just down the block from me.  Any payphones you see these days are not owned by the phone company anymore but belong to a vendor.
AT&T sold off their last in 2010. But there still some out there.
