I'm looking forward to not only more SP FP7s, but the Southern Railway FP7s in Tuxedo.

Why would this Espee modeler want a Southern FP7 in Tuxedo you ask?  Because I saw them as a kid rolling through my town on Amtrak's Coast Starlight!

Cheers,
Harry

I saw them, too, on a 1977 Oakland - Santa Barbara Coast Starlight trip.

Wow, there's actually quite a few interesting models on that offereing, including a re-run of the SP 77ft general service coach with a number of very specific exterior and interior schemes. The GEVO is pretty sharp and there's also a series of foobie heritage paint schemes, nice touch actually. The locomotives also have the Tsunami 2 sound package as the option.

With those new prices it looks like I'll be saving quite a bit of money this time around, since I bought the passenger cars and the FP's a few years ago. Sound has improved greatly over those years.

A wise modeler once told me, "If you spend a little more than what you're comfortable with, but get great quality in return, you'll NEVER be disappointed.  He was right.

Has anyone cross referenced the FP7As being offerred by Athearn in Southern and SP with the ones that Walthers announced a while back?  I want to order some Atheann Southern units.

Not sure what the question is.
But if you visually compare the two, the roof radius and the nose 'contours' are different. Kinda like throwing a Stewart F-unit into the consist, the roofs don't match and everything looks diffferent all of a sudden. In the distant past 'we' decided the Athearn nose was closest, not sure many people would tell the difference. The Athearn FP shell has quite a history to it. Obviously my favorite.

The one I remember was sub-lettered CNO&TP.

The Cotton Belt FP7 330 was a one-off purchase for the St Louis Southwestern.

I am rather surprised Athearn chose to offer this, especially given that Intermountain
has previously made these available.

Athearns Highliner based FP7 is considered by many to be a more accurate representation of the class F unit nose and body.

Yes, absolutlely. While the Walther's F's are good, there is just something that does not look right. It's eigher a slight variation on the nose, or something about the windshields that is off. Or both.

When I ordered my two SW7 enignes from Rail Systems that used to build 1/8 scale engines didnt know until I visited his shop what was used as a model to build them like. He used Athearn HO engines had them on his shelf, thus the FA and PA engines did have the slope above the widshield. Also neve could figure out where my SW got the louvers on the front top or radiator grill style. There it sat on his shelf along with the others he built.

I'm hoping Athearn releases the SP 77' General service coaches with the correct Waukesha AC units and not the Steam Ejector AC units

So, this paint scheme was the one used when the Rainbow Era started? I am putting together a 1971-era train and these might do the trick.

You do a 1971 train and its all SP cars if its an SP train. The SOU Fs wwere only used south of Portland a few times in early 1977
