No Rail Service
Author: Jimmies

I've had an open space against the backdrop that I thought I could fill in with a shallow relief building.   I got the general idea for this structure from a YouTube video featuring the Detroit Connecting Railroad.  No rail service to this place, as there's just not enough room to work a spur into.

The finished structure is about 1.5 inches deep, and 25 inches long, and I do have some wall sections from the 2 kits left over to use somehow in the future.  I did most of the work with the parts laying flat on the workbench, then added the small end pieces and mounted the whole thing onto a piece of MDF.  I masked off the plastic "concrete" of the kit so that it wouldn't get scratched.

This fits in nicely with the overall "rundown industrial end of the city" concept of my layout.

Excellent workmanship in every photo! In photo 7, is that a shanty under construction? It appears you left the sidng off on purpose---is that correct?

How did you create the metal scrap pile?

Ghemr - not under construction, just an old shack (Atlas maybe) that I had on hand and stuck in the scrapyard as an office until I find something I like better.

Tehachapifan - the scrap piles are "busheling" (metal chips) from a machine shop.  Given to me by a friend that's a tool-and-die guy, I've glued it down onto styrofoam mounds.  I've got ferrous and non-ferrous piles in the scrap yard.  And thanks for noticing the door.  I liked it too, but never figured anyone else would even notice it.

Beautiful work - really captures the 'rust belt' look with the weathering.  I like it without the spur too; we need to include what is no longer served as well as active places to capture the feel for more modern layouts.  You nailed this one!
