This newsletter was all Bill. His modeling really is phenomenal. I am very jealous. But I am also grateful that Bill can do these newsletters as well as I can. They take HOURS and HOURS to write and put together.

The M-420 looks FANTASTIC!

As you develop those, please do not forget we British Columbia Railway Modelers out here. 
We are ready to pull out our wallets for the BCR versions. 
I know that it is not as simple as all that, because the BCR's were very different from the CNR's (particularly if you include - and I hope you do - the modified steps versions), but I do believe that they would sell for you.  

I suppose it also goes without saying that a B-unit would be craved by the same group of modelers. 
Here is an A-B-A set at Forst St John, NC in August of 1988 (My photo)

Congratulations on a great looking 1st run unit and continued success.

Gorgeous photo, Brian! And thanks for the kind words.

Our plan is to announce the BCR as a conditional release like we did with the Turboliners. I am cautiously optimistic that we will sell enough to go ahead with the tooling.

I want people to see and hear the CN one - and hopefully love it - before we announce the BCR units. That will ensure the highest possible number of pre-orders and increase the likelihood that we can make the BCR units.

I realize there is not much hope for a FCP/NdeM/FNM version of these units due to the low sales potential for them.

I would like to suggest that you select the closest available version that you produce and paint it for the Mexican road name you would think is most popular. It would not have the road specific details, but I can absolutely live with that - it would be close enough. I don't have the time or talent (or eyesight, or patience, or desire)to disassemble, paint and reassemble another very complex model.

I appreciate your consideration.

Yes, I will buy CN... and probably BCR in the R/W/B scheme... and probably a B unit too.

Of course, those units were M-424's with an enlarged radiator area.

There's been a few comments on what would need to be changed to make it a BCR M420, are we talking just the dynamic brake vents and the fuel tank? For example wouldn't want the updated steps to sink the whole project.

Is the models construction such that the db vents or a larger radiator is an easy fix... or something more major?

Interesting to see the M420 ( no W anymore ) focus piece by Andrew Castle, explains a number of aspects about the prototype and the assignments.

Really the better choice would be to make the modified steps on a BCR version because it opens a far larger number of paint scheme possibities including The later greens schemes, ad Red/White/Blue as well as off-line versions like Ontario Southland and Delaware Lacawanna. 
With the original steps, you get just the one paint scheme. 
 

The question stays the same, is the design that they have modular enough to make all those changes, or is that going to cause re-designs, delays, McGiver tricks?

Or how about the 8-40CM idea. One shell, different paint schemes, more sales at a lower price?

Decisions, decisions ...
