L&N Alco C630 Decals
Author: rkap10

Hi, I need to add numbers to an L&N Stewart Alco C630. If any one can recommend a source for these decals I would really appreciate the help. Thanks.

L&N's C630s were all delivered in one lot June/July 1966.  You did not say which paint scheme you are using, but I'll assume it is the as-delivered version with a red and yellow L&N herald on the cab sides and non-italicized skinny yellow numeral road number in black outline on the sides of the long hood that Stewart used.  In that case, Microscale #87-817 L&N Diesels (1963-1970) - Early Grey and Yellow Schemes has the numerals you need, although the yellow color match may not be the greatest.  The latest photo evidence I can find of a C630 in original paint is 1425 in Aug '73.

If you are doing a repainted C630 with the road number on the sides of the cab, it could have the cab side road number in either skinny italicized black outlined numerals (like 1427 by Jun '71, 1429 by May '72, or 1430 by Apr '72), or fat straight yellow numerals without outline (like 1431 by Oct '74), depending on when the C630 was repainted.
The skinny italicized black outlined numerals are also on the Microscale #87-817 sheet.
Microscale #87-823 L&N Diesels - Late Grey and Yellow Schemes has the fat straight yellow numerals without outline.

As always, your railroad's historical society and the rail photo websites are your friends, such as:
