Model Railroading > How to weather siderodsDate: 07/04/20 22:46 How to weather siderods Author: KremeStation I just don't want to ruin the operation of my locomotive.
Date: 07/05/20 08:20 Re: How to weather siderods Author: tomstp You haven't said how you want them to look. Dusty, oily, lost their sheen, rusty, filthy as hell, etc.
Date: 07/05/20 09:04 Re: How to weather siderods Author: Bob3985 UP used to wipe theirs down with oil to help keep them from rusting.

After an engine runs over a couple of divisions, the pin grease gets thrown around looking like little turds on the bottom of the air tanks and running boards and the oil spreads.
I spent many hours cleaning up 1522 and recognize all the signs. Date: 07/05/20 15:04 Re: How to weather siderods Author: KremeStation Very nice! but how would I go about this?
Date: 07/05/20 19:11 Re: How to weather siderods Author: dmaffei Checkout PBL Neolube for side rods. It lubes as well as tones down the nickel plated rods
Date: 07/05/20 20:37 Re: How to weather siderods Author: Jeff_Johnston Hi, you can also just paint the side rods as you would any other part of the loco. Just don't dump enough paint on there to gum up the works, and once the paint has dried, your lubricants for the moving parts will also loosen up any stray paint that crept into the wrong places.

As for the paint - AK Interactive and Vallejo as well as Ammo by MIG have extensive fuel spill and stain paints for military modelers. The photo looks close to Vallejo's MECHA Weathering #69.814 Fuel Stains (gloss.) Date: 07/06/20 12:54 Re: How to weather siderods Author: KremeStation How do I paint them? I don't want to take them off and quarter the drivers.
