Model Railroading > It’s so big! or, Athearn did me a solid.Date: 08/04/20 13:02 It’s so big! or, Athearn did me a solid. Author: WrongWayMurphy About a month ago I dropped my Genesis Big Boy from about 4 ft. First photo shows the result.
I called Athearn and they suggested I send it to Long Beach to the repair center, which I did and they were extremely courteous and helpful. They fixed it at a very reasonable cost and short time frame, and kept me informed on the progress. I can't say enough good things from their customer service dept. You should be confident on your purchases from Athearn that they care about your business and they stand behind what they are selling. Guess I should have installed the 130 ft table instead of the 90 footer when I had the chance.... Date: 08/04/20 13:16 Re: It’s so big! or, Athearn did me a solid. Author: BNModeler Love Athearn!

I have to think each move through before I lift. Glad to hear you had a good experience with an "old friend" Athearn. Date: 08/04/20 18:53 Re: It’s so big! or, Athearn did me a solid. Author: tomstp Man, that engine was an ugly wreck..

Author: Frisco1522 Worst experience I've had is when I finished a scratchbuilt brass Frisco 4-6-4 and sent it out for a breakin run. About a mile into it, something derailed the pilot truck and it took a dive to the floor. Amazingly, the only thing damaged was a step on the tender and a cab roof corner and bent handrail. Ten minutes later you couldn't tell what happened.

My benchwork was about 54 in. from the basement floor, and I had left a tool on the track. The loco went around a curve and by the time I saw what might happen, it was too late. With what seemed like mili-second, the loco went off the track and took a dive for the floor. I couldn't run fast enough. It really looked bad. I sold it to Don here as a basket case and with his brass working skills, he fixed it up and painted it for resale. He had to put a lot of work into it, but my loss was his gain.

Author: atsf121 Glad they got it fixed, that was very fortunate. I dropped one of my Athearn diesels (fairly new at the time) and my heart stopped. It still runs but needs a few pieces glued back on.
