SP Operations Today On Randall Museum Model Railroad
Author: FiveChime

Construction on the Randall Museum Model Railroad located in the basement of the Randall Museum near Twin Peaks in San Francisco begain in 1961.
This layout was construced and and had been operated by the Golden Gate Model Railroad Club until around 2016 when it was donated to the Museum as
their Model Railroad Exhibit.
With the expertise of computer programmer and wiring expert , Raphael Moll, train operations have been automated when model railroad volunteers are not present
and portions of the layout that had not run for years, have been reactived.
When members of the GGMRC began construction of the layout in 1961, they envisioned the potential for operations where trains could be made up in diffeent yards
and switch industies along the mainline which can be again accomplished now.
1. SP Walthers Proto SD9 5342 with a Walthers F7,  takes a train out of the Napa Yard located beneath and in back of the layout and enters the mainline.
2. Entering the main
3. Operating on the mainline

4. At Lodi, additional cars are picked up.  Amazing, but due to early quailty track constuction some 55 years ago, cars can be switched with few track related derailments.
5. Expanded train back on the mainline.
6. X5342 terminating at the layout's main Stockton Yard.

The Randall Museum is currently closed due to the pandemic but is expected to open again in early 2021. Public admission is free.
