Model Railroading > SP GP40P-2 #7600Date: 12/11/20 13:35 SP GP40P-2 #7600 Author: sp8192 Finally got this one completed. Since Athearn hasn't done the one and only speed lettered GP40P-2, I decided to go ahead and make my own for the 1995 era. It Started as a red/white/blue Spirit of 76 painted SP #3197. I stripped it down, added a larger fuel tank, plated over the rear top steam generator piping, added a new cab, ditch lights, spare couple pockets, horn placement, and some other odds and ends... Scalecoat 2 paint and Microscale decals and LED's added.

Cheers, Jim Date: 12/11/20 14:04 Re: SP GP40P-2 #7600 Author: wheel_slip Excellent work! Now you can bet Athearn will bring these out soon ;)

They were purchased for Commute power, but they also went on the Weekend Warrior freight duty just like the SDP45's. Later went to freight only and had the steam biler removed as indicatedin the model. The speed lettering seemed to be a decent scheme for the later SP. Sometime called the Anschutz era, or the Uncle Phil days. t4p. Date: 12/11/20 14:35 Re: SP GP40P-2 #7600 Author: photobob Here she is one night in Dusmuir while in freight duty.
