Model Railroading > My CAT loads on Intermountain flatsDate: 03/31/21 12:26 My CAT loads on Intermountain flats Author: flippin77 I had a couple PM's from the SD60M tri-clops post yesterday of my BN's pulling out of Emporia, KS with 10 flats of yellow iron. The IMR flats have been the best around for a long time in my opinion for these loads, but I am looking forward to what Scaletrains has coming this year. Being a 3rd generation Cat employee here in the heart of CAT country, I love putting these loads together. Intermountain chains they include with their flats is what i used for tiedowns and my buddy Don Jaeger made the CAT parts boxes. The only thing I really haven't done to them yet is chock the wheels and the track on the D9s. The tiedowns work well, you definately need a very sharp knife, steady hand and a 6 pack of beer (for patience) to get them to look right. The tiedowns on the D9 were cut in 3 different places to get them to laydown across the track.

Counter guys thought that it was cool but still weird. Date: 03/31/21 14:23 Re: My CAT loads on Intermountain flats Author: Pattenburg What scale would that be 1/87?
Date: 03/31/21 14:57 Re: My CAT loads on Intermountain flats Author: flippin77 Thank goodness I know where to get a can:) So when you pull the pins on the blade, arms and ripper you will have to shoot these again with paint. I had to take a grinding wheel to remove the blade arms.

I had one of the IMRC 60' TT flats but it had quite a bow in it which I couldn't permanantly remove. I don't have it any longer. I do have a couple of the ScaleTrains flatcars that are similar and looking forward to getting them. Don't know if they will come with those chains; that was a nice plus on the Intermountain flatcars. BTW, Alkem Scale Models makes heavy duty tie down chains as well. I ordered a set for a load I plan to make. Cheers, Jim Date: 04/01/21 19:19 Re: My CAT loads on Intermountain flats Author: upkpfan If you want it to look right on tie down on the D9T, you need to do it like you have the rubber tired loader tied down. You don't tie a dozer down like the way you have it. upkpfan

and unloaded a lot of CAT equipment off of many flatcars! Including the first 4 D11Ns sold in the country! Great modeling, brings back memories of unloading all that yellow iron! Thanks for sharing! This is exactly how we tie our cats down as well.
