Date: 04/17/21 07:00 Re: Removing the shell USA Trains SD40-2 Author: zr1rob there are 2 screws for the long hood under the truck. The hard part is getting a small diameter Phillips down there. I think you first have to remove the 4 screws from the 'slider' - the slotted unit at the very rear of the bottom frame, so you can rotate the truck far enough to get that screw driver into the hole. The front truck also has the same situation. Also, I think there are a couple of screws for the shell under the fuel tank. Remove it and take those out. In total there are 8 long screws holding the entire shell. But you'll also have to remove the 4 short screws under the cab that hold the battery box and front steps, these are along the outer edge of the cab. Finally take out the front handrails from the steps and front of the cab and slip out the handrails from behind the cab (those rear handrails will scratch the cab - watch it!) Lift the shell, don't go too far up until you disconnect the lighting connectors.
