Model Railroading > New Walthers 1960s Train!Date: 07/14/21 13:51 New Walthers 1960s Train! Author: RRBMail Walthers just announced its "new" 1960s streamliner for the next season--its Pennsy's "THE GENERAL", ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz. Nice if you are a Pennsy freak or like "brown" trains. What about a Florida Train, Texas Special or better yet, the North Coast Limited?

Ed Stewart Jacksonville, FL Date: 07/14/21 14:42 Re: New Walthers 1960s Train! Author: MILW16 Were not these cars previously produced for the Broadway Limited a number of years back? If so, no new style cars produced - just reruns.
Date: 07/14/21 16:52 Re: New Walthers 1960s Train! Author: wabash2800 Walthers says that there are three cars in the consist with new tooling. Anyone know what they are? This train had a mix of equipment.

Can't please everyone I guess. Walthers got a nice preorder from me today though! Date: 07/14/21 19:17 Re: New Walthers 1960s Train! Author: Kemacprr Reason is the PRR stuff sells !! Plain and simple. ----- Ken
Date: 07/14/21 19:34 Re: New Walthers 1960s Train! Author: wabash2800 With the three cars in the consist with new tooling, do you think Walthers will just modify some existing cars or make something new? What has Walthers done in the past? I understand this was Pennsy's No. 2 train behind the Broadway Limited.

Date: 07/14/21 20:10 Re: New Walthers 1960s Train! Author: RuleG To Walther's credit, they also offer the shorter Washington section which many modelers would find to be a better fit for smaller layouts.
I'm not a Pennsy expert, but I would guess the cars could also work for the Duquesne, Juniata and Buffalo Day Express which were also shorter trains. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Date: 07/14/21 20:28 Re: New Walthers 1960s Train! Author: wabash2800 There are just some roads that are modeled much more than others. Surveys have proven that out too. However, I would suspect that DRG&W passenger trains would sell and the Zepyhr has been produced. For the Wabash, I am forutnate there are some items produced for that road but not much passenger equipment. My trains are heavyweights. (I could use some heavyweight combines and some true middle window coaches.)

Given the number of Budd cars released in the past, a Sunset Limited should be able to use cores and trucks they’ve already designed, reducing costs somewhat. Oh well.

I happened to be in my LHS a few years back when a Walthers rep called and asked the owner if he thought anyone would be interested in the flavor of the year. He told them to hang on a sec, looked at me and asked if I or anyone I knew would be interested in it, and relayed my negative response to the rep. it's sort of a no win for Walthers isn't it? No matter what train they choose, only a select few will be interested and the rest disappointed. Date: 07/15/21 08:01 Re: New Walthers 1960s Train! Author: Typhoon RuleG Wrote:
