Anybody done business with Hattons?
Author: 1019X

I have been seeing ads in Model Railroader for Hattons, a UK based company now doing business in the US that buys and sells used model railroad equipment. Has anybody sold anything to them and how was the experience?

I have bought from them.  Goods were carefully packed, arrived within two weeks to the west coast of the US, and they had all of the items I ordered in stock.  US customers don't have to pay the 17+ percent VAT baked into the advertized prices, and that about covers the shipping cost.  I haven't had a chance to visit the relocated store in person, but the old one was fascinating and the staff was very helpful.

I live in the UK, and I recently sold some surplus HO US locos from my layout. Their offer price was within a few quid of my estimate, so I sold them to Hattons. Living in the north of England, I delivered them. Prompt payment, no issues. chris UK.

Have bought some diecast cars from them. No problems, quick delivery considering their location.
Paypal makes for an easy transaction. I'd bet you don't have any problems with them.

I've visited their very nice shop in Liverpool and ordered from them multiple times.  Never been disappointed.
Home is in Iowa and that's where I've had things shipped.   The shipping time can very some, but as best I can tell it's always US Customs that cause the delay.

Hatton's is now #1 with me. I always did business with Rails of Sheffield, but once they stopped carrying HORNBY, one of their staff suggested that I shop with Hatton's. Hatton's has been very professional since I  moved over to them. I still buy from Rails, but only for brands not carried by Hatton's. BTW, The American concept that "the customer is always right" is rarely followed beyond our borders.

Hell, it's very rarely followed inside our borders.

I agree with rarely and in the last few years dealing with the younger set, over 21 and into the 30s you are seldom listened to or right in there eyes. Just got done with an at&t store punk.
