Atlas HO FMC 5077 box cars

I have several of these that I am finally getting around to putting out on the layout and I am wondering what the additional baggie of coupler box parts is for that is included?

If I recall correctly, the cars come with a narrow coupler box that will not accept Kadee couplers. So you need to use the other coupler box for Kadee couplers.

I thought they would accept the newer whisker coupler but not the older #5's, so they included the wider boxes.

Were these coupler conversion kits included in the first run of the Atlas 5077s and I didn't notice, or was that a second-run afterthought?

They were in with both of my Vermont Northern cars and my LEFC car whatever run those were from.

Even the whisker couplers couldn't move freely in the smaller box. They would fit in the box, but couldn't self center as the sides of the wide part of the coupler shank were rubbing the sides of the box.

Swapping over to Moloco's ME-10 EOCC units solves the problem, and they look better too...  :-)

Looks great, nice save.
Second time in a few days that Moloco draft gear gets the spotlight.

Thanks Rick for the plug. We worked pretty hard to get those right, a balance between looks, accuracy, durability and function. A lot more hours than I'd like to admit. And my tooling.
