Model Railroading > Last Tampa Northern for a while.Date: 05/29/23 19:39 Last Tampa Northern for a while. Author: SALGUY Today marks somewhat of a milestone in the brief history of the Tampa Northern Model Railroad. I've sold the railroad to the Tennessee Southern Model Railroad. LolNope, just kidding!!! As a matter of fact, I've dispatched my gremlins to TS headquarters and they should begin a hostile takeover any moment now. As of a few minutes ago, all 6 Accurail ACF 3 bay covered hoppers, all 6 Accurail boxcars and both Accurail 2 bay ACF covered hoppers are now complete. They have all been decaled, washed and hit with DullCote. The only thing left is to lightly weather them and I can do that anytime. All of the covered hoppers now ride on 100 ton trucks equipped with 36" wheelsets. Also, on the motive power front, SD40-2 775 has had its grabirons installed and it's numberboards are complete as well. Next up will be some window glazing and final details such as MU hoses, windshield wipers, etc. GP38-2 547 has had some of it grabirons installed as well. I decided to call it a night when I completed the grabs on the nose. When I get home this coming Friday, I anticipate that the Future Famous CITRUS EXPRESS decals will have arrived. I've got 3 57ft mechanical reefers just waiting to get those decals applied. If, when I get home Friday, and I feel like it, I can quickly have a 4th 57ft mechanical reefer painted as well.
Photo 1. All 6 of the Tampa Northern Accurail 3 bay ACF covered hoppers. The light blue ones are for processed phosphate and fertilizer service. The darker blue ones will be used in grain service only. Photo 2. All 6 Accurail exterior post 50ft boxcars. Yellow door, paper service. Black door, gebersl freight pool. Light blue door, insulated car. Silver door, experimental, lightweight, aluminum door. Gebersl freigh pool. Photo 3. Accurail 2 bay ACF covered hoppers. These cars will be used in cement and sand service. There will be 13 more of these cars on the Tampa Northern roster. Author: WP921 Thanks for the update Denis. I've enjoyed the Tampa Northern journey. That SAL caboose in the last photo trailing the new Tampa Northern 2-bay covered hoppers looks fantastic!
Gary Date: 05/31/23 14:23 Re: Last Tampa Northern for a while. Author: tomstp That is a good looking, colorful caboose.

Some of us modelers should be hired to come up with paint schemes and concepts for their (the real railroads) rolling stock! Some at best are mediocre, IMO, or simply gaudy. I'm not saying they have to spend a lot of money with bright colors, or ornate paint schemes, etc.

I'm glad you've enjoyed the updates. There will be more. I've just got to quit building engines and cars and get back to building the railroad. Right now, I've got about 50ft of track to set the cars on. That's not even 10% of the trackage this railroad will eventually have.
