Gateway Western GP60 Update
Author: ATSF90East

Here's an update for those of you that followed my earler thread.  I've made some further upgrades and addition to the 3D Gateway Western GP60 model.  The MU hoses, plow doors, warning decals and underframe air piping have now been added.  The five chime airhorn has been changed from a Leslie to a Nathan M5.  I've included both engineer and conductor side renders of the model.

I'm curious now that you've got this beautiful render, what do you do with it?

Hi Chris,
Now that I have all of these individual parts modeled I can use them for 3D printing, or import them into 3D Studio Max fo export into Open Rails Train Simulator.  Besides, it's kept me out of trouble for the last few weeks :)  The biggest reason I've made this model is to prove to myself it can be done with the research materials I have on-hand.

As a user of Open Rails, I like that idea :-)

Well great job Bruce, you've got me interested in firing up my trio of 60's, which I haven't run for awhile.

P.S. don't forget to install some spikes, we don't want your render to end up in the dirt! :-)

Thanks Chris,
I have a 2D spike drawing next to the computer in the "to do" pile, I may have to add some 136 Lb rail anchors as well.  Most of the things I've been concentrating on lately aren't very visible, such as traction motors and traction motor gearcases.

Re: Gateway Western GP60 Update - Trucks and Rail Detail
Author: ATSF90East

Chris noticed that the rails weren't properly spiked to the ties and tie plates in one of the earlier renders, so I got out the virtual spike maul and fixed the problem.  the attached render also shows some of the GP truck details. There are still details to be added, like the VX vent valves, some of the sanding system piping and the sanitary tank drain line.  There are also minor revisions to already modeled parts as I find better documentation.
