Model Railroading > Up the helix we go.Date: 09/10/23 18:09 Up the helix we go. Author: SALGUY In the video, 4 Tampa Northern GP38-2s get an assist from a Seaboard Air Line GP35. This is the first train to get a helper on the Tampa Northerns helix. It went flawlessly. I also backed it down the helix, with no issue.
I'm going to attach some stills, from video, so i don't use up my allotted number of videos. In the first photo we have 2 Southern SD45s getting an assist from a SAL GP35. The 2nd photo shows a train on the helix. In this photo you can really see the size of the helix. Yes, it's large. Be sure to follow the Tampa Northern Railroad. https://www.facebook.com/groups/879490203259220/?ref=share_group_link You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Join Today! Though you have a big helix, you haven't crowded the operating space. Date: 09/10/23 22:02 Re: Up the helix we go. Author: boejoe Looking good.

We needed to go up 19 inches and this design let us keep the grade a very reasonable 2.1% with 36" radius curves as well. It does take up a lot of space at that end of the basement. Eventually, there will be a similar sized peninsula at the other end of the basement. Date: 09/11/23 04:05 Re: Up the helix we go. Author: SALGUY boejoe Wrote:

Author: WP921 Great photos and terrific video of the train ascending the helix. That SAL GP35 shoving on the rear end sure looks good. Operation seems very smooth. Congratulations on this new milestone in your progress.

Its large now, in the end, ots going to be a monster. yes, it's a significant MILESTONE for the layout. It's one of many to come. Thankfully, I've got a good work crew, made up of long time friends. thanks again Denis Date: 09/12/23 16:20 Re: Up the helix we go. Author: SALGUY Notch7 Wrote:
