Saw this flyer at my LHS. BLI is doing UP's Kennefick in five versions.

A most welcome announcement. I look forward to adding one to my collection of UP passenger cars.

My other half says "it looks cool". So, I'll take that as an endorsement of the ordering plan. Yes, she did see the MSRP.

Interesting. My freelance RR may need one. I wonder if this is the first of either other UP business cars, or even additional business cars from other railroads.

Mike, there was a posting on the BLI Facebook page, back in January.

At that time, there were CAD drawings of five different lightweight UP business cars.

At that time BLI indicated that they were intending to produce:

UPP 101 Lincoln, formerly Lone Star.

UPP 102 St. Louis.

UPP 103 Cheyenne.

UPP 114 Feather River.

UPP 119 Kenefick.

Actual production may be dependent on how orders for the five versions of 119 Kenefick go. My speculation...

I don't work for BLI, but have been a UP modeler for many years and some office cars would go very well with the heritage fleet cars from Walthers.

Hope this helps.

Cool, thanks for the info. A Fox River or Idaho would be cool too!

I agree, lots of UP modelers out there that like these business cars. Saw a complete UP/Walthers/Challenger train running at the Denver show just yesterday. So a few more UP business cars I'm sure will at least make BLI money.

Bob:

Thanks for the update. A few years ago my youngest son and I were set to ride in coach on a UP 844 return to Cheyenne from Denver after pulling the Cheyenne Frontier Days Train. The wife of a UP executive was hosting her extended family in a dome car and Business Car St Louis. Out of the blue she invited my son and me to ride in the St Louis. So a model of that one would be most welcomed. Thanks to the OP for starting the thread.

Yes!
Also BLI did state they were going to make sure they "matched the yellow to other HO cars on the market".
Good plan BLI, thank you!!!!

So..it’s a modern version. Any ‘70s era UP business cars available other than in brass?

BLI will produce all five cars (101, 102, 103, 114, 119) but they indicated in the Q&A section of the latest newsletter that they will release them one at a time to spread out the tooling costs. Very excited for these to come out!

They said they were going to do earlier versions of these cars also at a later date, but im not holding my breath for that. They are currently working on heavyweight business cars in about a dozen road names, but its a Pennsylvania prototype with zero mods for the other lines. The Espee "Airslie" doesnt remotely match the prototype in the windows, under carrage, roofline or any of yhe SP lights and features..

I am not holding my breath either because modelers always find a reason to tear a model apart and not buy it or they simply have their head in the sand for months not realizing something is announced.  Then, months to years later after they are no longer available in retailers they realize they need one and chase it down.  If Broadway doesn't do really well on these they won't run others I bet because all of them require some if not all seperate tooling which can't be cheap.

Yeah, they specifically mentioned color matching to the Walthers cars. That is a GREAT idea in my opinion.
