Model Railroading > LokSound 5 DCC direct decoder #58821Date: 04/12/24 16:58 LokSound 5 DCC direct decoder #58821 Author: jburek Just purchased one of these to put into an Overland C430. Where on the board do you wire in the Powerpack keep alive? Insert included is kind of vague. Also, thought I read that if you use 1.5 volt bulbs you will need to include a resistor - no resistors included on the board I assume. Thanks for any guidance.

Personally, I use TCS Keep alives which are two wire, with a micro connector, but here is my "connection" guidline reminder photos for DIrects and V4/V5s. In the top picture, that is a direct, the black goes on the top of the decoder, the blue lead goes on the bottom. Bottom picture is a V4/V5 style. I use 12v LEDs on my installs which go direct to the outputs, so you'd need the equivalent resistance to run bulbs off the outputs. In the past, on SoundTraxx boards, I used 1000 ohm resistors for LEDs. Cooper Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 04/13/24 05:35 by SOU3921. Here's a TO post that discusses some of the issues and a list of the CV's.
JMRI Decoder Pro handles this with selections and or sending CV's. LokSound wants the Keep Alive disabled to allow the decoder to be programmed in a particular mode requiring all power to be removed from the decoder. Some of the protocols and rational are ... complicated. https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,4799450,4805445#msg-4805445 Date: 05/25/19 20:24 Scale Trains "Power Pack" Lok Sound V4.0, V5.0, Lok Pilot 4.0 Date: 04/13/24 09:26 Re: LokSound 5 DCC direct decoder #58821 Author: globalethanol Loksound also makes a V5 direct with integrated power pack (keep alive) now.

I believe it's less expensive to buy the 58921 than to purchase the separate power pack for the 58821. The 58921 with capacitors is the same length as 58821. |
